After the debate debacle last week in which Senator Hillary Clinton gave a vague answer as to whether she supported New York governor, Elliot Spitzer’s, plan to give licenses to illegal aliens, she has now said that she “broadly supports”such plans.

Clinton says we need to “bring people out of the shadows” and that they should have a path to citizenship. Illegal immigrants, according to Clinton, should be able to become citizens after those who came to the US legally, and should have to register, pay taxes, and learn English. Those who have committed crimes, though, should be deported, she says. Oh, you mean like the crime of coming into this country illegally? Oops! No, not that crime! Just other crimes. Really bad crimes. But not that one. Certainly not that one.

Well, it’s nice to know that Clinton has picked a side on this issue. Too bad her “only deport those illegal immigrants who have committed crimes” policy is just as fuzzy as her original “I’m not quite sure where I stand on the issue” answer at last week’s debate.
